What is the sum of the two numbers in the red squares?

Note that the two central squares are "in contact" with every other square except one of the red squares, which means that the entries in the two central squares have to be numbers that only have one other number they're consecutive with; so the two central squares must be filled with the numbers 1 and 8, and it immediately follows that the red squares must be filled with the numbers 2 and 7.
