Let the number of prisoners be x x

We know that

x × 2.5 × 5 = 100 x = 100 12.5 = 8 x \times 2.5 \times 5 = 100\\ x = \dfrac{100}{12.5} = \boxed{8}

You know that since there are 5 days, each day must have contributed 20%. 20 divided by 2.5 is 8, so there were 8 prisoners in the prison.
