Simple option substitution....if x=120,y=0 and the man should take 4 days to completely cover the field with corn.....if some1 cums up with the actual solution do post it!!

bcoz 30 of course .....

x + y = 120; Let T be the total time, T = (x/30)+(y/40); T = (x/30) + ((120-x)/40); T = 3 + x/30 - x/40 => T = 3 + x/120

rate of planting corn is 3/4 times of that of planting soy . so,if he plants x acres of corn in let say z days then he will plant 4/3 x acres of soy in z days , 30z+40z=x+y => z=(x+y)/70 =>x/30 (as y=4/3 x)
