It's Water No Matter Where You Go

Chemistry Level 1

Water is collected from clouds, lakes, seas and rivers and it is found to contain hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio 1 : 8 1:8 by mass in all cases. This indicates the law of __________ \text{\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_} .

The law of constant/definite proportions states that every pure substance always contains the same elements combined in the same proportions by weight.

For instance, water is always composed by 89% percent oxygen and 11% hydrogen. This ratio is constant in nature. This means that the amalgamation of different hydrogen and oxygen ratios will result in a different substance.

Another example is vinegar ( C X 2 H X 4 O X 2 \ce{C2H4O2} ). If and only if we have 2 atoms of oxygen, 4 atoms of hydrogen and 2 atoms of carbon in the composition we get vinegar, otherwise it is a different substance.

Well explained , a detailed one though.
