Find the number of points of intersection between y 2 = 2 x y^2 = 2x and y = x + 1. y = x + 1.

Solving the two equations by eliminating y y , we get x 2 + 1 + 2 x = 2 x x^2 + 1 + 2x = 2x , and this gives x 2 + 1 = 0 x^2 + 1 = 0 .Since there is no real number x x such that x 2 = − 1 x^2 = -1 , there is no point of intersection.
