Prasun Vs Azhaghu (Tic-Tac-Toe duel - 2)

Logic Level 1

Once Prasun and Azhaghu were playing the famous game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Prasun plays the cross i.e ' X X ' and Azhaghu plays a circle i.e ' O O '. In the above picture , now its Azhaghu's turn.If Azhaghu plays a wrong move , he definitely loses the game.So where can Azhaghu put a ' O O ' to defend himself from the trap of Prasun?

Details and assumptions:

  • A player can put his symbol only once every move and a player cannot say pass his turn.

  • If you think Azhaghu can put his symbol on say 1 , 5 1,5 then input your answer as 1 + 5 = 6 1+5=6 .

  • If you think Azhaghu definitely loses the game , input 0 0 .

We see that if Azhaghu doesnot let Prasun take the ' middle box ' , he would defend himself. Otherwise , Azhaghu will lose. Hence the answer is 5.

Great visual aids. Wonderful work Nihar!

I was thinking he had to win, i didnt know the answer was by making it a cats game

if you put the circle in the middle, prasun can just take the corners, leaving Azhaghu forced to put a circle on the top. Then, Prasun can take another corner which would give prasun a win.

Yeah. We refer to this technique as L L tactic!

its common sense

but placing it on 2 and 6 will also make it a tie, whilst if you put the circle in the middle, prasun can just take the corners, leaving Azhaghu forced to put a circle on the top. Then, Prasun can take another corner which would give prasun a win(from Dylan Koh). is right

As both the player as are hyper intelligent, the match ends in a draw. Let's examine the results of each move,

  • First at 1 1 .

If this happens, Prasun will surely place his next move on 6 6 to get the best chance of winning. Now, Azhaghu can place his move on either 5 5 or 4 4 , assuming that he places it at 4 4 , Prasun will place his next move on 5 5 and complete a row. . . . . . . . ( i ) . . . . . . .(i)

  • Next at 2 2 .

If this happens, then the play will continue in the same way as the first case. i.e, Prasun will win. (As in ( i ) (i) )

  • Now at 3 3 .

Even with this move, Prasun will surely win(continues the same way as above). (As in ( i ) (i) )

  • Now, at 4 4 .

If this happens, Prasun will surely place his next move on 2 2 to get the best chance of winning. Now, Azhaghu can place his move on either 5 5 or 1 1 , assuming that he places it at 1 1 , Prasun will place his next move on 5 5 and completes a row. . . . . . . . . ( i i ) . . . . . . . .(ii)

  • Next at 5 5 .

If this happens, Prasun will place his next move on 3 3 to defend himself. Now, Azhaghu can place his move on either 4 4 or 1 1 (so that he can win), assume that he places it at 1 1 . So, as a counter, Prasun places at 4 4 . Now, Azhaghu can only place his move on 6 6 to defend himself. Next Prasun puts the last move on 2 2 and the match ends in a draw! . . . . . . . . . ( i i i ) . . . . . . . . . (iii)

  • Finally at 6 6 .

If he does this the play will continue as it was in ( i i ) (ii) .

Hence we conclude that Azhaghu can play his best by using the ( i i i ) (iii) tactic in his tic tac toe game!

Well , my surname has been spelled wrong . It's Azhaghu \huge \text{Azhaghu} , u r missing an h .
