$X$ is my favorite positive integer, and I've listed out all the positive divisors of $X$ in ascending order.

The following shows a portion of the list:

What number must follow after $11?$

Since we are given 8 (or $2\times 2\times 2$ ) and 9 (or $3\times 3$ ) are positive divisors of $X$ , that means $2\times 2\times 3$ , or 12 , must be a divisor of $X$ .
