Chemistry Level 2

Slowly pouring a N a O H \ce{NaOH} solution into a test tube containing a H C l \ce{HCl} solution with a bit phenolphthalein until the amount of N a O H \ce{NaOH} is in abundance.

Which of the following can be seen during the process?

The red color fades away gradually The blue color gradually appears. There is no color change. The red color gradually appears.

Pouring N a O H \ce{NaOH} into H C l \ce{HCl} will result in this chemical reaction: H C l + N a O H N a C l + H X 2 O \ce{HCl + NaOH -> NaCl + H_2O}

Clearly, the solution will remain colorless only if the amount N a O H \ce{NaOH} is "just enough". However, as the problem stated the amount of N a O H \ce{NaOH} is in abundance , the leftover amount of N a O H \ce{NaOH} solution will make phenolphthalein turn r e d \boxed{red} gradually.
