In view of the fact that the probability of having a girl or a boy is the same, whatever ratio is formulated, it always generates to 1. For instance, there are three boys. There accordingly are three girls. The ratio then would be 3:3. Reducing it would be 1:1. The problem asks for a+b, so 1+1=2.
