Probability sums

There are 7 green balls, 9 purple balls and 100 yellow balls in a big bag. If Ramu took 47 yellow balls from the bag and replace it to green balls , what is the probability that a yellow ball is picked when Cathy randomly picks a ball?

53/116 1/53 16/100 100/116

total balls= 9 + 7 + 100 = 116 9+7+100=116

yellow balls= 100 47 = 53 100-47=53 ................[as it has been exchanged by green balls]

so,the probability to get a yellow ball at a random pick is= 53 116 \frac{53}{116}

  • Originally , there was 100 yellow balls, but when ramu took 47 yellow balls out of the bag and replace it to green balls, the amount of green balls increased , number of yellow balls decreased. To calculate the number of yellow balls, you should do 100(original number of yellow balls) - 47(ramu took this amount of balls out)= 53(new number of yellow balls)
