(1÷f)=(1÷v)+(1÷u) now if the area is 9 times then the side is 3 times. Again the ratio of the size of object and image is equal to the ratio of their distance from the lens. From there we get image distance is 120 cm. Now put this value in the above formula. We get f=30.
