Since the particle moves with constant acceleration we can use the second law of motion. On evaluating the equation we see that it is a quadratic equation. So its path is parabola

is it necessary that if the equation is quadratic then it will be a parabola

Since we are talking about projectile motion, where a particle moves at a constant acceleration g, we prefer to use the 2nd Law of Motion. Thus the motion of a particle is in quadratic equation. Hence the path of a particle is parabola.
