Basically what the above gif portrays is

The Area of one square + The Area of Other Square = The Area of Third square \text{The Area of one square + The Area of Other Square = The Area of Third square}

Here the sides of the squares are sides of the Right Triangle \text{Here the sides of the squares are sides of the Right Triangle} which is just Phythagorean Theorem \text{ Phythagorean Theorem}

Yes, this is not an actual proof, just a verification.

But on a more serious note, a book named The Mathematical Mechanic discusses in detail how to solve several mathematical problems with physics intuitions.

Actually we see a right angle triangle in the mid.. so do not focus on water flow or other factors just take interest in the right Angle triamgle.for which phythagorean theorem is always applicable. .
