An inversion behavior will always happened when, either the end of the medium is fixed, or the medium is connected to another more heavy or more dense medium. Thus, by the picture above, the [B] and [C] will be inverted when it's reflected.

in figure [a] knot is not tight so the knot will go up along with the crest,no inversion will take place in this case..

in [A] , knot is not tight and power will dissipate here. in [D] wave is propagating from denser to rarer so it will reflect as it is i.e, crest will reflect as crest. so only in [B] and [C] wave will be inverted
