Direct application of Vieta's formula.

x 1 + x 2 = b a = 34 x_{1} + x_{2} = - \dfrac{b}{a} = \boxed{-34}

Applying Vieta's formula, sum of the roots of the given equation is 34 1 = 34 -\dfrac {34}{1}=-34 .
