For a quadratic equation Ax^{2} + Bx + C = 0 to have equal root B^{2} - 4AC must be equal to zero. In this case A=1, B=-k and C=k+2.
substituting this values gives another quadratic equation K^{2} -4K - 8 = 0. Solving this equation for K we get K = 2 + \sqrt{12} or K = 2 - \sqrt{12}. Hence the answer.!
