Question -25

Geometry Level 3

The line L L has intercept a a on x-axis and intercept b b on y-axis. The co-ordinate axes are rotated through a fixed angle, keeping the origin fixed. If p p and q q are intercepts of the line L L on the new axes, then find the value of ( 1 a 2 1 p 2 + 1 b 2 1 q 2 ) \left( \dfrac{1}{a^2}-\dfrac{1}{p^2}+\dfrac{1}{b^2}-\dfrac{1}{q^2} \right)

Hint: Rotation of coordinate axes doesn't change perpendicular distance of the line from the origin.
