I did the same way and this is the easiest.
While solving this problem, I have found an interesting way to tackle it
Take the reference point at G. For movements left to G will be negative and any movement right to G will be positive. Starting with the condition which involves G we can proceed as follows:
"four to the left of the letter G" = − 4
"immediately to the left..." − 1
"three to the right ..."= 3
Adding − 4 − 1 + 3 = 3 − 5 = − 2 . Therefore, the required letter is − 2 units from the reference letter (i.e., G). Or 2 units left to G (as per the 'sign convention' used). Here G is assigned the position 0 .
Note: If the problem's statement is simple (without any much twists). Then, as a rule of thumb, simply add the left movements to get a sum L and attach a negative sign to the numeric value obtained. Add right movements to get a sum R , let it be positive. Find R + L = U . The required letter is then U units from the reference point (you have to choose a reference point, pray that it be mentioned in the question. e.g., G in this problem). If the sign of U is negative then the sought letter lies left of the reference chosen otherwise (if U is positive) the sought letter lies right to the reference point.
You must try this on examples where the no. of quantities is more than 8. Try this using this method.
