My friend once gave me 8 horizontal strips and 8 vertical strips which are parallel to each other respectively. He asked me to count the number of rectangles that could be formed without arranging them!! How do I do? Could you help me in counting them? How many rectangles can be formed?

Its simple it is equal to ( 8 − 1 ) ! + ( 8 × 8 ) Because no of small rectangles is equal to ( 8 − 1 ) ! and no of other remaining rectangles is equal to 8 × 8 By adding we get the total rectangles.
