Label some more points as follows:

By the Pythagorean Theorem on G F I \triangle GFI , G I = 3 2 + 4 2 = 5 GI = \sqrt{3^2 + 4^2} = 5 .

G F I G H I \triangle GFI \sim \triangle GHI by AA similarity, so E H E G = F I G I \cfrac{EH}{EG} = \cfrac{FI}{GI} , or A B 4 = 4 5 \cfrac{AB}{4} = \cfrac{4}{5} , so A B = 3.2 AB = \boxed{3.2} .

Let E F EF be perpendicular to B C BC and label the 3 3 - 4 4 - 5 5 right triangle as G H I GHI as shown. We can see that E F I \triangle EFI and G H I \triangle GHI are similar. Then we have E F E I = G H G I \dfrac {EF}{EI} = \dfrac {GH}{GI} . A B = E F = G H G I × E I = 4 5 × 4 = 3.2 \implies AB = EF = \dfrac {GH}{GI} \times EI = \dfrac 45 \times 4 = \boxed{3.2} .
