Red & Blue Sox

Number Theory Level pending

Calum's favorite colors are red and blue. It's no suprise that he only has socks of those colors in his sock drawer. One day, there was a power outtage at his house just as he was getting ready for school. If he has 3 pairs of socks all together, how many individual socks does Calum have to pick out to be sure that he has two of the same color?

The answer is 3.

There are only 2 types of color of socks. In the worst-case scenario, he will have to pick both of each type in his 2 picks so the 3rd one will ensure that he picked out a pair ,either red or blue.
