Reduce my work burden to give the rent.

A silver selling person agreed to give each day's rent to his landlady by giving one inch of silver bar every day. He decided to give first day 1 inch second day taking back the first inch and giving 2 inch bar. Next day he will give both to make 2+1=3 inch for third day.. So what is the minimum number of silver bar pieces needed to give for a month having 31 days?
