By “side” the author meant the distance A B AB from vertex to a distant vertex.

The radius of the circle the star is inscribed in can be obtained from triangle C B O CBO and is r = 8 cos 1 8 r=\dfrac {8}{\cos18^\circ}

Area of triangle O B D OBD can be obtained from r r and the angles inside the triangle, which are 1 8 18^\circ and 3 6 36^\circ next to r r , and 12 6 126^\circ oppsite.

[ O B D ] = r 2 sin 1 8 sin 3 6 2 sin 12 6 [OBD]= \dfrac{r^2\sin18^\circ\sin36^\circ}{2\sin126^\circ}

Area of the star is made of 10 10 such triangles and is

A = 79.43 A=\boxed{79.43}

Agree. Not only that, it should also make it clear what "side" is. There is no established definition of a side of a star. I was hoping my solution would prompt the author to change the wording of the original problem, but that did not happen.
