Four friends, Ariel, Carla, Tanya and Jennifer are married to Carlo, Anderson, John and Paul; but not necessarily in that order. Each woman is married to exactly one man.

We have the following pieces of information:

  • Carla is not married to Paul.
  • The initial letter of the name of the wife of Carlo is between G and M inclusive.
  • The initial letter of the name of the husband of Tanya is between J and S inclusive.
  • Ariel is married to Anderson.
  • Jennifer is not married to John.

Given that, Ariel, Carla, Jennifer and Tanya are married respectively to:

Check the Options with this clue. "Carla is not married to Paul." Carla is in second position. There is only one option available where Paul is not in second position. So simple...

That's the cleverest way to do it. I figured I'd use more logic to prove myself right, but that gives you the answer in one shot.

As initial letter of Carlo's wife lies between G & M, this means that Jennifer is married to Carlo..... also, given, Ariel is married to Anderson, and for the remaining two couples, we know that Carla is not married to Paul, which means she's married to John, and Tanya's married to Paul...... hence, we get the answer...........!!!!!!

As carla isn't married to paul and paul is in 2nd position in all options except one...

Alex's solution is the simplest and best and fits the other clues as well. With a problem like that instead of giving multiple answers to choose from readers should be asked to provide either the full answer or answer a specific question e.g. who Tanya is married to?

This one is really easy because it says Carla id not married to Paul and paul is the 2nd answer choice on 3 out of 4 answer choices, there for it has to be the only answer that doesnt have paul as the 2nd person

  1. The only name you can find with the initial letter in between G and M is Jennifer.
  2. It says IN BETWEEN "J" and "S", so it doesn't include J and S.
  3. Ariel is married to Anderson. Obvious.
  4. We already found out about Jennifer.
  5. Since we found out Ariel married Anderson, Jennifer married Carlo and Tanya married Paul, it is certain that Carla married John.
