Cindy is 12 years old. One day, she asks about her mom's age. "I will be 62 years old by the time you reach my present age." replied her mom. What is her mom's present age?


The answer is 37.

Cindy's age: = 12 =12 Mom's age = x =x

After n n years

Cindy = 12 + n =12+n mom = x + n =x+n

But 12 + n = x 12+n=x

And x + n = 62 x+n=62

∴ 12 + n + n = 62 \therefore 12+n+n=62

n = 25 n=25

x = 12 + n = 12 + 25 x=12+n=12+25

x = 37 \boxed{x=37}
