If the orange angles are equal, what is the ratio of the length of the yellow line to the length of the blue line?

2 5 \dfrac{2}{5} 9 16 \dfrac{9}{16} 5 7 \dfrac{5}{7} 3 5 \dfrac{3}{5} 3 4 \dfrac{3}{4}

Label the figure as shown. Let the orange angle be θ \theta and the length of the blue line B C = 1 BC = 1 . Then B E = sin θ BE = \sin \theta . Since B G = G E BG=GE , G E = 1 2 sin θ GE = \dfrac 12 \sin \theta , F E = G E tan θ = sin θ 2 tan θ = 1 2 cos θ FE = \dfrac {GE}{\tan \theta} = \dfrac {\sin \theta}{2\tan \theta} = \dfrac 12 \cos \theta . F C = F E + E C FC = FE+EC = 1 2 cos θ + cos θ = \dfrac 12 \cos \theta + \cos \theta = 3 2 cos θ = \dfrac 32 \cos \theta . Let H H be the midpoint of F C FC . Then F H = 3 4 cos θ FH = \dfrac 34 \cos \theta . Since C D F \triangle CDF is isosceles, D H DH is perpendicular to F C FC . The length of yellow line D F = F H cos θ = 3 4 DF = \dfrac {FH}{\cos \theta} = \dfrac 34 . Then D F B C = 3 4 \dfrac {DF}{BC} = \boxed{\dfrac 34} , since B C = 1 BC=1 .

Thành Đạt Lê , it would be better to label the figure because difficult to see the color. No need to say "lemon yellow" in English just "yellow" unless there is another yellow. The ratio is about the lengths of the lines not the lines. Use "to" instead of "between" for ratio. For example, "the ratio of a a to b b " means a : b = a b a:b = \dfrac ab .

Thanks for the feedback. First, it seems redundant to label the picture unless you point out that particular entity in an (in)equality that can't be translated easily to words. Also, lemon yellow is one of my favourite colour and it doesn't hurt anybody to say the full name.

If you look at problems by others all are label for clarity. You can clearly say "Find D F B C \dfrac {DF}{BC} instead of using English. For I was not sure which line was lemon yellow. I thought it was A B AB instead. Problems are for convenience of the solvers not for the convenience of the problem create. Though your favorite I have never know what is the different between lemon yellow and other yellows. I was trying to make your problems popular. I have no other intention. I was pointing out why your problems are not popular despite your hard working efforts.

I've noticed that you have been recently solving (almost) all of my problems(, I can't be sure) and giving me helpful feedback, which is what I am grateful for. But making my problems more popular is not a necessity right now. And the reason why I post so many problems a day right now is that Lunar New Year has not ended yet and I have a lot of free time and my parents don't want to travel too far to get to my grandparent's hometown like a lot of my classmates did. The Lunar New Year is boring here in the city, and there isn't anything interesting to pull me away from my house and go downtown. So I stay at home all day. Thanks again for the help, I don't really need it. I hope that doesn't waste your time.

It is quite okay. I won't trouble you anymore. Have a good holiday. I am a Chinese celebrating Lunar New Year too.

You can always give feedback. It's not a problem.
