Resistance and Power

One thousand watts of electric power are transmitted to a device by means of a series of two wires, each of which has a resistance of 2 Ω . 2 \Omega. If the resulting potential difference across the device is 100V, then what is the potential difference across the source supplying the power?

250V 20V 500V 140V 40V

P=VI.

I = (P/V) = (1000/100) = 10 A

IR drop = IR = 20V

100 + 20 + 20 = 140 V
