Resistor Network

If each line segment has a resistance of 1 Ω 1 \, \Omega , what is the total effective resistance between the two green dots?

Details and Assumptions:

  • Each line segment begins and ends at nodes, where two or more line segments of different slopes/orientations meet.
  • Each line segment connects to exactly two nodes (green dots count as nodes too).

The answer is 3.0357.

The solution below uses condensation, symmetry pruning, and delta-wye transforms. I also confirmed the solution by starting with the initial topology, assigning node voltages, and solving using node equations and linear algebra.

Is he teaching a large class of students? If so, he probably doesn't have time to answer these hard questions coming in from all of the students. If he was your own personal tutor, and he was just teaching you alone, then it would be reasonable to expect him to answer such questions.
