A man pulling a bag of sugar with a means of a rope inclined at an angle 6 0 60^\circ to the horizontal. If the tension in the rope is 100 N 100N , Find:
1. the effective force;
2. the force tending to lift the sugar up.

None of the answer 100N and 90N 85N and 28N 50N and 86.6N

  1. Effective force= F cos θ F\cos\theta

    = 100 × 0.5 100\times0.5

    = 50 N 50N

  2. Force tending to lift the sugar up is also the vertical component.

using F sin θ F\sin\theta

so, 100 × sin 60 100\times\sin{60}

so, 100 × 0.8660 100\times0.8660

so the answer is 86.6 N 86.6N

I do not understand why is the resultant force the horizontal component......??????
