side of the square=.707km. so,diagonal of the square=1km The diagonal the rocket is flying along will shorten to, d2=1 (1-(v^2/c^2))^1/2 =.3509km. no change will occur in the other diagonal,since it is perpendicular ti the direction of motion. so,d1=1km. so, new area=.5 d1*d2=.179km
