The rules of Rock Paper Scissors

There can be no ties

  1. R a v e n Raven uses Scissors once on S a m Sam 's paper and three times on S a m Sam 's rock. The score is now 1 1 to 3 3 , S a m Sam being 3 3 .
  2. S a m Sam uses Scissors four times on R a v e n Raven 's paper and twice on R a v e n Raven 's rock. The score is now 3 3 to 7 7 , S a m Sam being 7 7 .
  3. R a v e n Raven 's score subtracted from S a m Sam 's score = 7 7 - 3 3 = = 4 4 , meaning S a m Sam had four more points than R a v e n Raven .

S a m Sam won by 4 4 points

The key to solving this riddle is realizing that Sam played scissors six times. Because there were no ties, that means Raven didn't play scissors in any of those six games. Now look at the various hands Raven did play. Because she played scissors four times, and none of those could line up with one of the six times Sam played scissors, she must have played all six of her other hands on Sam's six scissors.

Therefore, six of the games, not necessarily in order, were as follows:

-1-Sam: scissors vs. Raven: rock [Winner: Raven] -2-Sam: scissors vs. Raven: rock [Winner: Raven] -3-Sam: scissors vs. Raven: paper [Winner: Raven] -4- Sam: scissors vs. Raven: paper [Winner: Sam] -5- Samdam: scissors vs. Raven: paper [Winner: Sam] -6-Sam: scissors vs. Raven: paper [Winner: Sam]

Now look at what is left over. We see that Raven has only scissors left. Therefore, the other four games are:

-1-Sam: rock vs. Raven: scissors [Winner: Sam] -2-Sam: rock vs. Raven: scissors [Winner: Sam] -3-Sam: rock vs. Raven: scissors [Winner: Sam] -4-Sam: paper vs. Raven: scissors [Winner: Raven]

Tally it all up, and Sam wins by 4 points as the ending result is - 7 to 3.

Nice question, though
