Rotating wheel

A driving wheel of a gear has a radius of 16 cm 16\text{ cm} and 32 teeth along its circumference. If the driven wheel has 8 rotations, for every one rotation of the driving wheel, calculate:-

(i) Number of teeth on the driven wheel;
(ii) radius of the driven wheel.

Submit your answer as the sum of the answers obtained in (i) and (ii)(in cm).

The answer is 6.

No. of rotations of driven wheel = 8 8 .
No. of rotations of driving wheel = 1 1 .!!! No. of teeth of driving wheel = 32 32 . Radius of the driving wheel = 16 c m 16cm

(i) No. of teeth in driven wheel No. of teeth in driving wheel = No. of rotations in driving wheel No. of rotations in driven wheel No. of teeth in driven wheel 32 = 1 8 No. of teeth in driven wheel = 32 8 = 4 \dfrac{\text {No. of teeth in driven wheel}}{\text {No. of teeth in driving wheel}} = \dfrac{\text {No. of rotations in driving wheel}}{\text {No. of rotations in driven wheel}}\\ \\ \dfrac{\text {No. of teeth in driven wheel}}{32} = \dfrac{1}{8}\\ \\ \therefore \text {No. of teeth in driven wheel} = \dfrac {32}{8} = 4

(ii) Radius of driven wheel Radius of driving wheel = No. of rotations in driving wheel No. of rotations in driven wheel Radius of driven wheel 16 c m = 1 8 Radius of driven wheel = 16 8 = 2 c m \dfrac{\text {Radius of driven wheel}}{\text {Radius of driving wheel}} = \dfrac{\text {No. of rotations in driving wheel}}{\text {No. of rotations in driven wheel}}\\ \\ \dfrac{\text {Radius of driven wheel}}{16cm} = \dfrac{1}{8}\\ \\ \text {Radius of driven wheel} = \dfrac{16}{8} = 2cm

\therefore , The answer is 2 + 4 = 6 2 + 4 =\boxed{6} .
