There should be some more space between 3 and 1/2 or it should be 3 and 1/2 because i got confused and thought it is 31/2 though i gave a wrong answer and got some points in algebra lost.............

Here is the solution. [$1.29 times 3.5] - [$0.89 times 3.5]= $1.4

  • If Sandi had bought 1 1 pound of each, the difference would have been: ( $ 1.29 $ 0.89 = $ 0.4 ) (\$1.29 - \$0.89 = \$0.4) .
  • Since the difference totals up for each pound, the total difference will be 3 1 2 × $ 0.4 = $ 1.4 3 \dfrac{1}{2} \times \$0.4 = \boxed{\$1.4}

Just multiply the prices of both the kind of apples with the amount she bought,respectively. And whatever answer you get after deducting the figures is the solution to the problem

Notice that the difference in cost is $0.40 for each one of each apple you buy. So if you buy 3 and a half apples, the difference will be $0.40 multiplied by 3.5 which gives you $1.40

total cost for fuji apples_ 7/2x1.29. total cost of golden apples_7/2x0.89. price paid for golden apples more than fuji apples = 7/2x1.29-7/2x0.89 7/2{129/100-89/100}= 7/2{40/100} = 7/5= 1.4$
