The answer is 8 km/s as a projectile travelling at 8 km/s drops 5 m every second and travels 8 km in a second. The curvature of the earth is also 5m for every 8 km and so the projectile is continuosly in free fall around earth and it stays in orbit. At 12 km/s it will escape from earth's orbit.
