Eleven scientists are working on a secret project. They wish to lock-up the documents in a cabinet such that it can be opened. 6 or more scientists are present what is the minimum no of locks needed?

There has to be a unique lock for every group of 6 scientists possible out of the 11 scientists.

Hence, the minimum number of locks has to be the same as the number of ways of selecting 6 scientists from 11 scientists:

( 11 6 ) = 462 \displaystyle \Rightarrow {11\choose 6} = \boxed{462}
