Semicircle bounce

Algebra Level pending

A child throws a ball and bounces 200 cm away from him. Then the second bounce is 300 cm away from the first bounce. The distance of bounces reduces by one fourth as the preceding distance. Assuming that the path of the ball in air is semicircle with no other forces acting on it, what is the distance (in cm) traveled by the ball as it is in air? (Hint: π \pi = 3.14)

The answer is 1570.

Distance of trajectory from the hand of child. ( 2 ) ( 3.14 ) ( 200 ) 4 = 314 \frac{(2)(3.14)(200)}{4} = 314 Distance of trajectories from first bounce whose a 1 = 300 a_1 = 300 ( 2 ) ( 3.14 ) ( 300 1 1 4 ) 2 = 1256 \frac{(2)(3.14)\left(\frac{300}{1 - \frac{1}{4}}\right)}{2} = 1256 Then, 314 + 1256 = 1570 314+1256 = \boxed {1570}
