There are four sequences below. They follow an identical pattern. Find the missing term in sequence D.

A: 5, 7, 12, 35

B: 8, 9, 17, 72

C: 12, 7, 19, 84

D: 3, 13, 16, ?

The pattern is: n 1 + n 2 = n 3 n_1 + n_2 = n_3 and n 1 × n 2 = n 4 n_1 \times n_2 = n_4 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ; [ n 1 = first number , n 2 = second number . ] ;[n_1 = \text{first number}, n_2 = \text{second number} \ldots.]

A: 5 + 7 = 12 5 × 7 = 35 5+7 = 12 \implies 5 \times 7 = 35

B: 8 + 9 = 17 8 × 9 = 72 8+9 = 17 \implies 8 \times 9 = 72

C: 12 + 7 = 19 12 × 7 = 84 12 + 7 = 19 \implies 12 \times 7 = 84

D: 3 + 13 = 16 3 × 13 = 39 3 + 13 = 16 \implies 3 \times 13 = \boxed{39}

Let the first two terms of each sequence be a a and b b

Then the third term is a + b a + b and the fourth term is a × b a \times b

3 × 13 = 39 3 \times 13 = 39

Can you make it clear that the sequences obey the same rule? Otherwise, my first impression was "here are 4 spot the pattern questions. Answer the last one".
