Series circuit problem

The series circuit at the right depicts three resistors connected to a voltage source. The voltage source (ΔVtot) is a 110-V source and the resistor values are 7.2 Ω (R1), 6.2 Ω (R2) and 8.6 Ω (R3). -Determine the equivalent resistance of the circuit.

The answer is 22.

Add the resistances because this is a series circuit.Easy Right

22Ω, Just a simple problem , the circuit is applied in series, in series circuit, the resistors assembly is intentionally made to upgrade the resistance in the circuit: the solution is just by adding three resistors in order to form an equivalent resistance: now we get Rs=R1+R2+R3 = 7.2 Ω+6.2 Ω+ 8.6 Ω =22Ω

Hello,as simple as abc,

as for series circuit,

R(total) = R1 + R2 + R3 + Rn.......

Therefore equivalent R = R1 + R2 + R3 = 7.2 + 6.2 + 8.6 = 22 ohms.....

For extra infos,

For series (current flow is the same as through R1,R2,R3),since given V tot = 110v,

By ohm's law,

V=IR, I=V/R = 110 / 22 = 5A,

Also you can find the voltage at each resistor by applying voltage divider rule,

V(R1) = 7.2 / 22 x 110 = 36V

V(R2) = 6.2 / 22 x 110 = 31V

V(R3) = 110 - 36 -31 = 43V or V(R3) = 8.6 / 22 x 110 = 43V,

Thanks.....

Thanks for going beyond what was asked. I wish people did this more often in lessons!

resistors are in series So R=7.2+8.6+6.2=22

Since it's series circuit, just add all of it.

7.2 + 6.2 + 8.6 = 22 7.2+6.2+8.6=\boxed{22}
