Ship in a Bottle

Geometry Level pending

You're building a model-in-a-bottle of a Norwegian clinker ship which has a square sail. The sail of the real ship is 8 meters wide and you want the sail of the model ship to be .08 meters wide. What fraction of the original area of the sail will your model sail area have?

. 08 m .08 \ m is 1/100th of 8 m 8 \ m . Therefore imagine that 100 model sails could be lined up along the bottom edge of the real sail. Similarly, 100 model sails could be lined up along the right edge of the real sail. Therefore, to cover the entire area of the sail 100 × 100 = 10000 100 \times 100 = 10000 model-sized sails would be needed.
