There are 7 people. Each person has 2 legs. That's 14. There is 1 table. Tables (usually) have 4 legs. That's another 4. There are 7 bags per person. That's 49 bags. That's 49 cats. Each cat has 4 legs. That's a further 196 legs.

Add them together. That makes: 7x2 + 1x4 + 49x4 = 14 + 4 + 196 = 214.

PS! Beware of the red herring of the table legs! I entered 210 first time because I forgot about the table legs - I feel this question requires a little lateral thinking!

There are 4 legs on a cat and 49 cats. 49 X 4=196 *.There are 2 legs on a person and there are 7 people. 2 X 7=14. * There are 4 legs on a table and there is one table.4 X 1=4 .Finally add the products up. 196+14+4 =214 .

Let N N be the total number of legs in the room.

There are 7 people each of whom have two legs. 2 × 7 = 14 2 \times 7=14 . Each person has 7 cats each, 7 × 7 = 49 7 \times 7=49 . Each cat has four legs. 4 × 49 = 196 4 \times 49=196 . Finally there is a table in the room which therefore adds an extra 4 4 legs.

Therefore, N = ( 14 + 196 + 4 ) N=(14+196+4)

Meaning N = 214 N=214

I got this wrong. I did not include the legs of the table, thinking that not all tables have legs of 4.
