An FM radio station broadcasts a weak message signal of low frequency by modulating (mixing) it with a high-frequency carrier wave. In modulation, the frequency of the carrier is made proportional to the amplitude of the message wave. This increases not only the strength of the signal but also the distance of broadcast.
