Algebra Level 2

Let y = f ( x ) = 2 x 1 y = f(x) = 2x - 1 and let g ( y ) = y + 1 g(y) = |y| + 1 .

If x x and y y are real numbers, for what value of x x is g ( y ) = 0 g(y) = 0 ?

There is no such value 1/2 1 0

|y| is always non-negative, by the definition of absolute value. So the minimum value g(y) can take is when |y| = 0. So g(y) cannot be less than 1.
