What is (x+2)^2 - (xy-x)^2 + 3, where ^ represents superscript and * = multiply

None of the above x^2 - 4x + 3 + 2x (2x + 2 - xy) (2 + xy) + 3 4x - x^2 * y^2 + 2x^2 * y + 7

The 3 rules of algebra:

  • (a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

  • (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2

  • a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)

Hence, we apply the 1st and 2nd rule here, and not the third as for the third rule, there can only be bold one unknown variable to the power of two for the rule to work.
