use the distance formula given only the line and a point. D=[( A(x)+B(y)+C)] divided by the square root of (A^2 + B^2)
since the point is on the origin (x,y)= (0,0) just substitute x, y, A , B,and C to the formula... and get -1 ,that negative means that the point is below the line remember my Note: use negative sign (-) if the point is below the line, otherwise use positive(+). I hope it helps you. :)
