Derivatives 101

Calculus Level 1

f ( x ) = ln ( x ) \large f(x) = \ln(x)

For f ( x ) f(x) as defined above, evaluate f ( 2 ) f'(2) .

Notation: f ( x ) = d d x f ( x ) f'(x) = \dfrac d {dx} f(x) denotes the first derivative of f f with respect to x x .

d d x ( ln ( x ) ) = 1 x \frac{d}{dx}(\ln(x)) = \frac{1}{x}

By plugging in 2 2 , we get 1 2 \boxed{\frac{1}{2}}

It was easy!
