Energy in a circuit which has a device with a potential drop of V and a current of I passing through it for time t , is given by
E = V I t
For our case, this energy is contributed by two devices, i.e. a 2 5 0 V , 1 A toaster and a 3 0 0 V , 1 . 5 A heater. So, the total energy can be given by:
E = ( 2 5 0 ) ( 1 ) ( 3 0 ) ( 6 0 ) + ( 3 0 0 ) ( 1 . 5 ) ( 5 0 ) ( 6 0 ) = 5 4 × 1 0 6 J
We know that 3 . 6 × 1 0 6 J = 1 k W h , and so, our energy in k W h is E = 3 . 6 × 1 0 6 5 4 × 1 0 6 = 1 5 k W h .
So, the cost of electrical energy used is 1 5 × 4 = 6 0 = n and thus n 3 = 2 1 6 0 0 0 .
