You can solve this problem by making everything into eighths. Peter has 6/8 of the pile, Michael has 1/8, and Sam has 1/8. By using this, you can determine that the difference between 6/8 and 1/8 (Peter and Sam) is 500. So 5/8 x =500. Michael's share of the pile was 2/8, which is 40% of 5/8. 5 0 0 × 0 . 4 0 = 200.
