A tank is 2 5 \frac{2}{5} full. If 16 16 litres of water is added to the tank, it becomes 6 7 \frac{6}{7} full. What is the capacity of the tank in litres?

xlitres=2/5y. xlitres+16=6/7y. substracting these 2 equations, x is eliminated. y=35.

6/7x- 2/5x=16 x=35

Let x be the capacity of the tank. 2/5 x + 16=6/7x.

Solving x: 16/35x=16 x= 35
