Prime Number

A prime number (or a prime) is a natural number that has exactly two distinct natural number divisors: 1 and itself.

For example, there are 25 prime numbers from 1 to 100: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97.

1-digit prime numbers are- 2, 3, 5, 7

Their sum is= 17

Prime numbers have at least 2 divisors which are 1 and itself. However 1 has only one divisor. Hence by definition, 1 is not a prime.

Solution steps:

  1. List all the 1-digit prime numbers.

  2. Read the question. It says "sum of 1-digit prime numbers".

  3. Add OR sum all the 1-digit prime numbers. You will get 17.

  4. So, the answer is 17.

There are 4 1-digit prime numbers that you have listed. Next, read the question again to ensure that you will don't get wrong.

What is the sum of all 1-digit prime numbers ?

The highlighted word is the keyword of the question. Now, you already have the 4 1-digit prime numbers. So, you can solve the problem above. How to solve? Add OR Sum like this:

2 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 17

You will get 17 if you don't calculate OR solve wrong. Now, you have an answer, that's 17.

2 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 17

We cannot include "1" during the addition since it is neither prime nor composite.

A prime number should be greater than 1 and always has exactly two positive divisors, itself and 1. 1 has only one positive divisor which is only itself.
