Sizing a Fuse

i ( t ) = 2 cos ( ω t ) + 2 cos ( 2 ω t ) + 2 cos ( 3 ω t ) \large i(t) = \sqrt{2} \cos(\omega t) + \sqrt{2} \cos(2\omega t) + \sqrt{2} \cos(3\omega t)

A fuse must continuously carry a current (in amps) described by the formula above.

If fuses are rated in integer multiples of 1 amp RMS, what is the minimum allowable fuse rating?

Note: In order for the fuse not to blow, its rating must exceed the RMS magnitude of the current it carries.

The answer is 2.
